JEE Main 2027 Syllabus Released: 2027 vs 2026, Unit by Unit (What Changed?)

By JEEnify Academic Team6 min readUpdated 28 October 2026

NTA released the JEE Main 2027 syllabus on 24 October 2026, the same day registration opened. Within hours, “JEE Main 2027 syllabus changes” was trending, and so were the rumours: new chapters added, Organic trimmed, Maths made longer. We didn’t want to guess, so we checked the two official PDFs against each other, line by line.

The verdict: nothing has changed. The JEE Main 2027 syllabus is word for word the same as 2026: the same 54 units (20 Physics, 20 Chemistry, 14 Maths), the same topics inside each unit, and the same B.Arch and B.Planning papers. The only difference between the two files is the year printed at the bottom of each page.

How we compared the 2026 and 2027 syllabi

Most “no change” claims online come from skimming chapter names. That misses the place where changes actually hide: a single topic dropped from inside a unit, like the potentiometer in 2024. So we did it the slow way:

  1. We took NTA’s official 2026 syllabus PDF and the 2027 PDF released on 24 October 2026. Both are 17 pages.
  2. We extracted the full text of both and stripped out spacing and line breaks, so formatting differences couldn’t hide or fake a change.
  3. We compared the two texts character by character.

The result: 35,707 characters each, and the only lines that differ are the page footers (“Syllabus for JEE (Main) - 2026” became “- 2027”). Every unit title, every topic, every listed experiment is identical.

For the full official text of each unit, see the subject pages: Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Everything removed in the 2024 revision is still out; the deleted syllabus guide lists it all.

Did the JEE Main 2027 exam pattern change?

No. The 2027 Information Bulletin keeps the Paper 1 pattern exactly as it was in 2026:

  • 75 questions, 300 marks: 25 per subject, split into 20 MCQs (Section A) and 5 numerical-value questions (Section B).
  • All questions compulsory; there is no choice in Section B.
  • +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong one, in both sections. Numerical answers are rounded to the nearest integer.
  • 3 hours, computer-based, in two shifts: 9:00 am – 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
  • Tie-breaking still goes Maths, then Physics, then Chemistry NTA score, then the ratio of wrong to right answers.

The full breakdown, with the scoring maths, is in our JEE Main 2027 exam pattern guide.

JEE Main 2027 syllabus rumours you can ignore

  • “New chapters have been added.” None were. If a site shows you a “new” chapter, check it against the official PDF below; it won’t be there.
  • “Alcohols, phenols and ethers are deleted.” Still in, inside Organic Compounds Containing Oxygen, exactly as in 2026.
  • “Deleted chapters are back for 2027.” They aren’t. Solid State, Surface Chemistry, Communication Systems, Mathematical Induction and the rest of the 2024 cuts stay out.
  • “The new NCERT books change the JEE syllabus.” Not for 2027. The JEE Main syllabus is NTA’s own document, and the 2027 one is unchanged. Whether NCERT revisions affect a later year is a separate question, covered in what may change for JEE Main 2028.

What “no change” means for your preparation

An unchanged syllabus is good news, because nothing you’ve studied is wasted and every resource built for 2026 is still exactly on target. Here’s how it plays out by situation:

If you are…What it meansDo this now
In Class 12 (JEE 2027)Session 1 starts on 20 January 2027. There’s no new content to learn, only finishing and revising.Close pending Class 12 units, then shift to full-length mocks and PYQs.
A dropperYour 2026 preparation carries over 100%. Your edge is depth, not coverage.Rebuild weak units from your mock analysis; see the dropper strategy.
In Class 11 (JEE 2028)This is the syllabus you’re most likely to face too, though 2028 isn’t confirmed yet.Follow the JEE 2028 roadmap.

With the syllabus settled, the questions that matter are which units to prioritise and how to use the weeks left. The important chapters guide ranks units by how often they appear, the revision plan turns that into a schedule, and the JEE 2027 countdown tells you exactly how many days you have.

On JEEnify, chapter-wise practice, full-length mocks, live mocks, PYQs and formula sheets are all organised by these same 54 units, so your preparation tracks the real syllabus automatically.
